Finally! High quality voice and broadband internet access comes in a small portable package.
BGAN gives you voice and broadband service similar to what you already use and expect at your home
and office, and
the EXPLORERTM 100 is the smallest and lightest BGAN terminal available. Another
optional advantage, is a small Bluetooth handset that gives you cordless voice access up to
65 feet from the interface unit.
Outfitter Satellite recommends
the EXPLORERTM 100 for users that simply want email and web access. If you need media-grade video or 492
kbps broadband, we recommend the HNS-9201 BGAN terminal. Otherwise, the EXPLORERTM 100 is the best choice
because of its small size and reduced cost.
The EXPLORERTM 100 weighs only a few pounds and is roughly half the size of a typical notebook
computer.
Rubberized caps on the external ports and other weatherproofing technology assure that the unit is
highly resistant to water and dust, making it equally at home in the desert and the rainforest.
Self-explanatory indicators make the EXPLORERTM 100 easy to operate. The antenna unit is intended for
external use (shown above), and the interface unit can be relocated indoors via an optional cable.
Your computer can be connected easily using either USB or wirelessly via Bluetooth (up to 65
feet from interface unit). If your computer does not have Bluetooth support, Outfitter Satellite
offers a USB-to-Bluetooth adapter for Windows machines.
Options include: cordless Bluetooth voice handset (see below), corded WorldSet
voice handset*, 10 and 20 meter antenna cables, DC/DC adapter, car charger, padded
softcase with backpack strap, watertight impact Pelican case (see below), and SkyFile
email/fax/video software. Another related version, the EXPLORERTM 110 will support an Ethernet
interface.

Outfitter satellite has been our satellite phone provider for the past 2 years (see
Extreme Environment). Last year we were able
to communicate with students back in the United States, send field journal updates and send daily photos from
the field in Bolivia where scientists were studying one of the highest lakes on Earth (19,600 feet). This
year, the folks at Outfitter Satellite provided us with 2 Nera world communicator sat phones and a Talking
Head videophone unit. Their assistance allowed the scientific team to again communicate with students not
only with field updates and photos, but for a live webcast as well. Through using the satellite phones and
videophone unit, students from a rural school in Northern California were able to talk personally with
scientists in the field and ask them questions about their expedition. This webcast changed many students that
day, and encouraged them to push their limits of knowledge. They observed real science as it was happening,
from thousands of miles away! To offer this type of learning experience would have never happened if it
weren’t for the folks at Outfitter Satellite. Because of their hard work and dedication, students around the
world participated in cutting edge science without leaving the safety of their classroom. Thank you!

The primary advantage of the EXPLORERTM 100 is its small size and portability.
Its ISDN port is intended ONLY for use with
specialized voice handsets such as the WorldSet and cannot be used
for other services such as 64 kbps circuit-switched data, 3.1 KHz audio,
or other high speed ISDN services.
