Thrane & Thrane Inmarsat M4/GAN Terminals
Inmarsat M4 terminals can be used to access the GAN (Global Area Network) which supplies
voice and ISDN services (including 56 kbps, 64 kbps, and 3.1 kHz Audio). GAN is suitable for
internet access and H.320
video communications.
The newer Inmarsat BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) service is expected to replace GAN over
time since it uses much lighter terminals and has higher data rates. However, the older GAN service
is offered with NO MONTHLY FEE and provides coverage in some areas that BGAN does not currently
serve, including much of the Pacific Ocean Region (see coverage map).
Outfitter Satellite has a limited supply of USED GAN terminals.
The Thrane & Thrane Capsat Messenger Inmarsat M4 terminal
provides voice, 3.1 kHz audio (suitable for 14.4 kbps faxing with a conventional fax equipment) and
64 kbps (ISDN) data/internet access.
