Send an SMS
The following rules will assist you in sending an SMS message to an Inmarsat IsatPhone PRO, IsatPhone 2, IsatHub or BGAN terminal. Some BGAN terminals limit the use of SMS messages to machine controls so please consult your User Manual.
- The maximum length of an SMS message is 160 characters.
- There is no charge to receive an SMS message on an Inmarsat phone or terminal. There is a charge for outbound SMS messages sent from the Inmarsat satellite phone or terminal (see your airtime contract for details). Undeliverable SMS messages sent from the Inmarsat satellite phone or terminal that are undeliverable due to errors unrelated to the Inmarsat network such as problems with mail filters, mailbox overflows, or incorrect addresses remain billable.
- Outfitter Satellite recommends the use of the Inmarsat SMS web portal by going to: connect.inmarsat.com/Services/Land/IsatPhone/SMS/sms.html
- You also can send an SMS message to an Inmarsat satellite phone or satellite terminal directly from your cellular or terrestrial email service by sending the email to email@example.com (where mobile_number is the 12-digit 870 mobile number of the Inmarsat satellite phone or BGAN terminal).
