Ruggedness: The IC-SAT100 can operate in challenging temperatures from -22°F to +140°F (-30°C to +60°C) and has an extraordinarily long 7 hour battery life. Its IP67 ingress protection rating means it can be submerged in water up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes without failure. It also meets the 810G military standard.

Special Advantages of the IC-SAT100: The IC-SAT100 is a single-mode Iridium-PTT-only device so it does not have the ability to make "private" calls to fixed or cellular phone numbers or send SMS "text" messages like the Iridium Extreme PTT (see feature comparison). That said, the IC-SAT100 has numerous advantages including a mobile-radio-like user experience:

  • Talk group selection and volume controls use conventional top-facing knobs -- like most mobile radios.
  • Left-side PTT button.
  • A large front-mount speaker gives clear audio for noisy work environments.
  • A field-replaceable flexible antenna. (The Iridium Extreme PTT antenna must be replaced at the factory broken.)
  • Record and replay the last few incoming transmissions. This is useful in noisy situations when a message needs to be repeated. Creating these messages is admittedly cumbersome since the IC-SAT100 does not have a full keypad but you can save messages and use them later.
  • A limited text-messaging feature does allow one IC-SAT100 handset to simultaneously send messages to all other IC-SAT100 handsets.
  • Emergency button to instantly switch the unit to the Priority Talk Group.

On-the-Fly, Web-Based Administrative Controls: Each subscriber organization has its own PTT Command Center web portal. This allows the subscriber organization's administrator to quickly and easily adjust the boundaries of talk groups by simply placing circles, rectangles, and other controls on a map. A Talk Group can be formed from multiple contiguous or non-contiguous areas that can be located in different states or even different countries. For example, part of a talk group area could be located in Tennessee and another part in Texas and another part in Alaska -- and the talk group boundaries can be changed as often as desired in a matter of moments by the PTT Command Center administrator.

Iridium Push-to-Talk Airtime Plans: Unlimited push-to-talk communications are included with a low monthly fee. Both 3-month and 12-month term plans are available. As mentioned earlier, the IC-SAT100 does not support telephony functions so these features of the service plan do not apply to this particular model. For more information, click here.
