The Matrix iSeries XB (Mobile Version) is a land vehicle mounted system that bridges Iridium® Push-to-Talk to local land mobile radio talk groups and also functions as an Iridium Push-to-Talk device. This device improves communications by automatically compensating for the additional time delay inherent in Iridium Push-to-Talk communications. With this device, you can access the global Iridium® Satellite Network and participate with Iridium Push-to-Talk talk groups from your land vehicle. Order your iMatrix XB Mobile Version from Outfitter Satellite today.

  • Bridges an Iridium Push-to-Talk talk group to local land mobile radio talk groups
  • Functions as a Iridium Push-to-Talk phone
  • Automatically compensates for the time delay in Iridium Push-to-Talk communications
  • Connects to the global Iridium® Satellite Network
  • Basic cross band to conventional radios (PTT/COR) signaling
  • Supports intelligent handset (H2) with push-to-talk functionality; ability to display and change talk-groups; show signal strength and connection status
  • Analogue control head supports handset, external speaker, volume control, on/off switch, built in power amplifier
  • Matrix iSeries XB is not simply a bridge but is also an active Iridium Push-to-Talk device that supplies push-to-talk communications for the land vehicle occupants.
  • The Matrix iSeries XB can support location tracking for the vehicle (additional costs apply). The tracking only records the positions of Iridium Push-to-Talk devices when they become the talker in a talk group.

The Matrix iSeries XB has a handset for push-to-talk mode communications. No telephony capability is available with the Matrix iSeries XB.

  • For use in land vehicles

Reliable Coverage:

You can depend on the Iridium® Satellite Network to provide reliable, global coverage no matter where you are. Iridium Push-to-Talk eliminates the need for reliance on land-based radio towers, landlines and fiber optic lines that can be damaged in regional disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes. Satellite communication systems ride above storms providing communication when other communication systems are down.

Smart Messaging:

The Matrix iSeries XB employs Smart Messaging. Voice messages are intelligently managed. For example, should two users at different locations push to talk at the same time, one message will be delayed until the other message has been transmitted. Then Smart Messaging will transmit the delayed message. Messages are never lost. A user in a moving vehicle may be communicating with dispatch. If the land vehicle carrying the Matrix iSeries XB enters a tunnel while the user is speaking, Smart Messaging will detect the connection to the satellite network if it has been lost. Upon the vehicle exiting the tunnel and re-establishing connection with the network, Smart Messaging will transmit the users message from the beginning. Transmitting the full message ensures the recipient retains the message context.

The Matrix iSeries XB may be used as an interoperability gateway. Sophisticated interfaces enable integration with a wide range of mobile radios. User organizations may interconnect their radios with the Matrix iSeries XB and share their talk groups or channels with other organizations. Interoperability made easy!

Multiple Talk Groups:

Talk groups / communications channels are easily selectable from the ergonomic handset.

Control Head:

A Control Head option featuring a powerful amplifier and external speaker is available. The control head provides for convenient mounting in the vehicle cabin and may include provision for disabling the satellite backhaul if desired.

Handset with Display:

A slim handset with integrated display and keypad is available. The handset offers the user a degree of privacy while making a call. The display on the handset provides status information relating to the satellite connection, the selected talk group/communication channel as well as providing a means for the user to adjust the settings to suit their specific preferences. The handset enables the selection of talk groups/communications channels.

On-the-Fly Web-Based Controls:

Each subscriber organization has access to a Iridium PTT Command Center web portal that allows the subscriber organization's administrator to quickly and easily adjust the boundaries of any Talk Group by simply placing circles, rectangles, and other controls on a map. A Talk Group can even be formed from non-contiguous areas in different states or different countries. The administrator can adjust the boundaries of a Talk Group on the fly and can control which Iridium Push-to-Talk handsets have membership in each Talk Group. The system is easy to use and easy to administrate.

Talk Group Options:

The smallest Talk Group that Iridium offers has a generous coverage area about the size of the state of Indiana. Larger talk group coverage areas are available if needed (for additional charge). Complex talk group borders can be configured by the user on-the-fly using the Iridium PTT Command Center web portal.

* Notes: A custom integration cable is required to connect the Matrix iSeries XB to each particular type of land mobile radio. Pre-made integration cables for some common mobile radios including the Motorola XTL (and similar models) and the ICOM F-6021 (and similar models) are typically available off-the-shelf (pricing by quote). For other mobile radios, we may need an example of the mobile radio from the customer to create the integration cable and an engineering fee (TBD) is required.
