The Bivy Stick doesn't offer voice calls, but it does let you send text messages or share your location directly from your own smartphone. Other safety features include the ability to initiate an SOS with Global Rescue and download weather forecasts tailored to your GPS location -- not bad for a tiny 3.4 oz device.

The new Bivy Stick uses Iridium which means it can work virtually anywhere. All you need is a clear view of the sky. Text messages can be sent to any mobile phone number or email address. The Bivy Stick has its own dedicated US mobile number so your friends can send your Bivy Stick a text message directly from their cell phones. Other safety features of the Bivy Stick include the ability to send an SOS message to Global Rescue or a Check-in message to your friends; these safety features are supported directly from dedicated buttons on the Bivy Stick (no smartphone required after initial setup).

Bivy Stick is compatible with both iPhone and Android smartphones via BlueTooth.

Weather Reports: With Bivy Stick, uncertainty about weather will never ruin an outdoor adventure again. Simply download a 3-day or 7-day weather forecasts for your current location.
SOS Button: In an emergency, an SOS button on the Bivy Stick lets you initiate a message to Global Rescue that includes your location. An SOS can also be sent from your smartphone via the app.
Check-In Button: Send a preset message with your GPS location to your friends so they can stay aware of your status.
Water & Dust Resistance & Shock Rating: Bivy Stick is designed for survivability. It has a IP67 rating against water and dust instrusion so it has full protection against dust and other particulates (including a vacuum seal tested against continuous airflow) and against immersion in water for up to 30 minutes at depths of up to 1 meter.
