With SPOT Gen4, you can quickly let family, colleagues or team members know where you are and that you’re safe. The Check In function sends a pre-programmed message together with your GPS location, while Custom Message gives you another configurable message option for keeping contacts updated.
For longer journeys or remote operations, the Track function automatically records and shares your location as you move. Tracking intervals can be set as frequently as 2.5 minutes, helping contacts follow your progress through SPOT’s online mapping tools. Motion-activated tracking can also help conserve battery life by only reporting while the device is moving.
If something goes seriously wrong, the dedicated SOS button provides a direct way to send your GPS coordinates to a 24/7 emergency response service, which can then coordinate with the appropriate local authorities.
For non-life-threatening situations, the Help function allows you to notify selected contacts that you need assistance at your current GPS location. That can be useful for situations such as vehicle problems, equipment issues or other incidents where support is needed but an emergency rescue response is not appropriate.
The SPOT Gen4 is designed to be carried into demanding environments. It has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, operates in temperatures from -30°C to 60°C and weighs just 142 g with lithium batteries installed. A durable carabiner makes it easy to attach the unit to a backpack, belt or other equipment.
Powered by four AAA batteries, SPOT states that the Gen4 can send up to 1,250 Check In and Custom Messages on a single set of lithium batteries, making it well suited to extended trips and remote deployments where regular charging may not be practical.
